It is popular to characterize politicians as people who deceive the public but this does not stop many who have this view from passionately defending a politician they view as preferable to some other politician that may get into power. The problem with downplaying the lesser of two evils to help them get elected, is you are contributing to a society where it is the norm to elevate harmful people into positions of power. The world would be a much safer place if people were more critical of those in power. By being fair with your criticism of all politicians, others are more likely to question their own beliefs and be more critical of the politicians you view to be the most dangerous as you reduce the which football team are you backing mentality.
