Most would agree that equal rights for everyone, regardless of their inheritance, is an ideal to strive for. Democracy is typically praised because it is seen as fair that all people should have an equal say in matters that affect them. However many issues that affect people are global and so arguments for more powerful nations having extra rights over weaker ones, is in conflict with this ideal.
