The world would be a better place if people cared more about logical consistency

The world's survival depends on the ability of people to be able to reason with one another. Reason is dependent on language and language is dependent on the construction of sentences that follow logic.

Arguments dependent on inconsistent logic may be very influential but this is only possible due to a lack of scrutiny by the people who are influenced by the words that sound like they make sense.

What I like about computer programming is: you get to test your arguments with reality. Debugging computer code has made me aware of how often I am wrong and how often I am trying to have my cake and eat it. To get code to work, we have to submit it to reality, it does not matter how much we self righteously shout at the computer, our code won't work until our logic is consistent.

I have heard arguments made along the lines but people are not computers, we are not only about logic, we have feelings too. It is true feelings are very important but feelings are still dependent on logic. People may be more easily influenced by inconsistent arguments but this does not mean we have immunity to logic. It does not matter what we tell ourselves to make us believe all will be fine if we run head on into a brick wall, we will still feel the pain when we crash into reality.
